School assignments have kept me from drawing for a month :( I’ll probably have more time to dedicate into drawing since the two weeks break just started today.

I think this one is pretty well done, except for probably the hair is seems to be rather weird. What do you guys think?

Critique needed for improvements :)

Mabinogi: Nao Photoshoot

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Okay, yes I do know that this figurine has been long released. Many would have photoshoots of Nao as well. But I decided to do this one anyway. :)

This figurine is by Good Smile Factory and released on January 25 2006 at 4,001yen. Sculpted by Hiro, this is a very highly detailed figurine that is absolutely top-notch.

Nao comes with a long rod/staff and a nice pastel colored pink base. It has a screw-type of base of which holds her down firmly. I am not worried about this figurine bending as it’s center of gravity is pretty much near the center. The staff that comes along with it can be easily slotted through Nao’s hands. You can also place other stuff (so long she can grasp it). I especially like this figurine as

1.) Very nice paint work
2.) Cute expression
3.) Nice curves

Now, let’s see the pictures

Cosafe - Maid Cafe

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

The long awaited maid cafe has finally opened it doors! Situated in CHIJMES, I headed down together with bj0rn to check how it is coming along. Apparently, it is the soft-opening (meaning for family and friends to visit) and so it wasn’t really officially opened. Press release would be this Friday or Sunday (Can’t remember which day!). There wasn’t anyone in the meido uniform yet, and most of the stuff are still being shiffted around.

Location wise, I do think CHIJMES would do good. Why? It’s located just opposite Raffles City, although the rent is rather on the expensive side. Mini-akihabara (a.k.a Sunshine Plaza) is also located about 10 minutes walk from the cafe.

There wasn’t much to see on the first day, given it’s soft opening. We managed to have a word with the managing director, Mr Floyd. He at a worried look on his face at first, when he saw that I was carrying a DSLR camera. He approached us and asked

“Are you guys from any clubs? Like SGCafe or Tsubasa Shirou (Think the name is spelt as that) or something like that?”

“Oh no. We’re just ordinary folks that heard of the opening of the cafe”

“Ah ok, well, today’s actually the soft opening”

(Conversation went somewhat like this)

It was originally to be opened in Far East, but it seems that they managed to grab a nice location in CHIJMES.

I’ll be heading back there again probably either this friday or sunday (can’t remember which day!) , where it’s the press release and everyone comes snapping pictures of their maids like no tomorrow :)

Comiket 71

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Comiket 71 is drawing near! It’s Winter Comiket a.k.a Fuyucomi!

For those who do not know what comiket is

Comiket, otherwise known as the Comic Market or CM, is the world’s largest comic convention, held twice a year in Tokyo, Japan. The first CM was held in December 1975, with only about 30 participating circles and an estimated 700 attendees. Attendance has since swelled to over a quarter of a million people. The convention lasts for three days. It is a grassroots, DIY effort for selling dōjinshi, self-published Japanese works. As items sold in CM are considered very rare (because dōjinshi are seldom reprinted), some items sold at CM can be found in shops or on the Internet at prices up to 10 times the item’s original price.

The continuing operation of CM is the responsibility of the Comic Market Preparatory Committee (CMPC).

Well, is anyone going for this one?

^ Tokyo Big Sight, Odaiba, Tokyo

Comiket 71
Dates: Dec 29-31, 2006
Time:10:00 ~ 16:00
Location: Tokyo Big Sight Halls East 1-2-3-4-5-6 West 1-2-3-4; Ariake 3-21-1, Koto-ku, Tokyo

The location is the same as always, over at Tokyo Big Sight (Winter),on December 29,30,31 in 2006. This year’s comiket is a little odd, as it finishes on New Year’s eve. After which, there is Shogatsu (New Year) which is the most important holiday in Japan and most businesses would be closed from January 1 to January 3, and families spend time together. There is also special dishes to be eaten as well, such at Osechi ryori, otoso and ozoni.

Okay, I went abit off track there ^^.

I guess it would be cold over at comiket as it’s winter, so people who are going, do wear sufficient clothes and at least a mode of transportation home as it would be very very very crowded (New Year’s eve). You could probably grab one or two extras and hide them under your clothes :p

The catalog for C71 is out on the internets as well. I do see a couple of interesting stuff. Too bad I can’t attend any for these events as I’m not in Japan. Give me 5 more years :)

Really sorry about this!

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Ah! Seems like I have forgotten to edit the comments-post.php file when i upgraded wordpress. It’s fixed now :)

This explains why there are no comments for the past week or so and why you guys couldn’t comment at all. Thanks Seths for pointing that out. I really need to get an email account for this site. Really sorry about this!

Local Maid Cafe Opening News

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

“They have finally made their move”

“Why, yes they have”

“Strategy Forward Intrusion activated”

——

It seems like the maid cafe is opening on the 12th of december (Tuesday)

The cafe would be located over at

30 Victoria Street #01-11 CHIJMES

A good location I would say, as it is walking distance from most of the ‘anime otaku’ stores.

I’ll probably check it out either on tuesday after my networking paper, or friday afternoon.

I do hope they dress up in lolita fashion or maid style uniforms (french maid!) :)
