Parodies

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

A recent visit to a few blogs and I found the apparent parodies of ‘Kaidoku Funou’ (a.k.a Code Geass 2nd OP) and ‘Cruel Angel’s Thesis’ (Evangelion’s OP theme song done in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu style!

This is actually a parody of the concert episode of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (Episode 11 if I recall). Simple lip-syncing and frame cropping has made this possible.

The parody makers have taken different short video frames, thrown in ’Kaidoku Funou’ as the audio feed and volia!

Now, the 2nd OP of Code Geass doesn’t seem half as bad if they used this :)

Next up, we have ’Cruel Angel’s Thesis’ (Evangelion’s OP theme song spoofed with characters from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Although it isn’t as good as the original, but it’s really well done given that fact that they managed to do most of the scenes almost as exactly to the original.

Thumbs up!

Lastly, not a spoof but instead, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Special ED: Full Dance Version, courtesy of Kyoto Animation.

I particularly love the way the animators have put this one together. Very lively and ‘moe’ if I would have to place it in words. It’s really hard to make an ED with characters dancing in sync with a song.

Mikuru looks somewhat cuter in this ED :)

Kit Kat Chocolatier

Monday, January 29th, 2007

A trip to the local supermarket and bought these 2 lovely looking boxes containing kitkats.

Introducing Kit Kat Chocolatier Strawberry & Nuts and Kit Kat Chocolatier Ujimaccha & Kinako, a Japan Limited edition!

     ^
Very intimidating boxes

Kit Kat Chocolatier Strawberry & Nuts is at the back, while Kit Kat Chocolatier Ujimaccha (a variant of green tea) & Kinako (soybean) at the front.

Ujimaccha <Link>

Each box costed about 5.80SGD and contains 16 Mini single fingers of kit kat bars.

^ Front and back view (Kit Kat Chocolatier Ujimaccha & Kinako)

16 Mini single fingers in each box. I like the simple wrapper design of it. It makes it very easy to customize if more variants of Chocolatier comes out.

      ^ Pink variant of Chocolatier

The simplistic wrapper design also reminds me of Power Rangers. People differentiate them by their colors :) Pink Ranger Go!

^ A mini single finger bar

A light plain green finger bar, depicting that of a wasabi color. The kinako couldn’t really be tasted. Probably because it’s a single finger bar. 2 single finger bars should the length of a finger standard bar.

The Kit Kat Chocolatier Strawberry & Nuts consists of erm.. strawberry and nuts. It actually just tastes the same as Kit Kat Sakura <Link>. Same (chemically processed) strawberry wafers taste. Different feel, different touch. I think this one’s isn’t as sweet compared to Kit Kat Sakura.

Also, when you open the box up, there’s a short description of the Kit Kat by the makers (Can anyone confirm this?). You can actually also use this as a tissue box once you’re done with eating the bars ^___^

29 January 2007

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I think I know what needs to be done now. There is no planning, only executing it. Going through the repeated cycles of emotions each week, has built me stronger. But I do know there’s that fear lingering around, ready to attack that string of conscious thoughs. I need to press on :/

Now, is it Rin Tōhsaka and Archer or Illyasviel von Einzbern and Berserker?

Pathétique

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

I have been catching anime series with Piano related themes. The possible newer one owuld be ‘Nodame Cantabile’ whilst the other would be ‘Piano’ , a series which was aired back in 2002- 2003.

Probably one of the most famous pieces used in Nodame Cantabile would be Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, op. 13 ,titled “Pathétique”. I remembered getting hooked on this piece ever since I heard it when it was used as a background music in ’Memories Off 2nd’. The 2nd Movement or ‘Adagio’ movement is the most memoriable for me.

The ‘Adagio’ movement starts off with a famous cantabile, with this theme being playing three times, interspersed with two modulating episodes and returning to the main theme, with a very much stronger accompaniment. The rest you’ll have to listen it yourself :) A very emotion provoking piece indeed.

Also, I have half-heartedly tried to learn the second movement back in the rainy days of december 2004 and gave up :/ It was tough, and still is. But I shall try again ^__^

Here’s a digitalized version for the first page of the second movement.

^ Lots of notes makes it fun to play! :)

I found the digitalized of the whole score over at International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) , a public domain music score library. It provides a lot of classical scores.

melody. - Be as one

皆さん、こんにちわ!
今週とらいしゅうはいろいろ仕事から、最近ブログはアップデートしませんでした。
本とにごめなさいでした! ^^

Hello there everyone!
Due to lots of work/assignments that has to be completed, I haven’t had much time to update this blog.
Really sorry about that!

—————————————

I have been listening to melody.’s for a few days now, with it looping in my player’s playlist and also in the MD.

Who is this melody. then? A short quote from wikipedia reveals more

melody. is a Japanese American born in Hawaii. Her full name is Melody Miyuki Ishikawa. She has three younger sisters, one of whom, Christine, is also involved with the music industry in Japan. She became most popular in Japan when her song “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz was used in a commercial for Mitsubishi. Melody is currently a vegan. She is not to be confused with “MELODY”, who sang the theme song for the CBC drama “Kids War” in Japan.

Mostly recently, melody.’s latest single “Lovin’ U” debuted on the Oricon Weekly Charts at #16. The single includes the B-side “Our Journey.” Which, was the theme song for the 2006 movie Gen Yu Den starring Rena Tanaka, who also co-wrote the lyrics to the song.

Participation in Need for Speed Carbon game.

Does it ring a bell? I have heard one of her songs (’realize’) once, back when it was in the 2005 Weekly Best 30 Oricon chart.

This album ‘Be as one’ has a very balanced mix of tunes. Sad, happy, and yet an upbeat and catchy album I would say. It is probably not too pop-ish as well.

Tracklisting

1. Be as one
2. see you. . .
3. De ja Vu
4. realize
5. Close Your Eyes - English Version
6. Promises
7. Dear Love
8. Take a chance
9. Nest to You
10. Stay with Me
11. Gift of Love
12. miss you (nagareboshi REMIX)

I particularly like ‘realize’ , ‘Close your eyes’ , ‘Take a chance’ and ‘Next to you’. I could probably describe them as very powerful songs, one to motivate you :) ‘Take a chance’ would be at top if I had to choose from these 4 selected.

You can find this album on the internets, though I urge you to support this artist by buying this album. You might also have realized that Yumi, one of your crew member for NFS:Carbon is actually casted by melody. as well.

P.S. I think I’ll take about 100 out of my paycheck to grab all YUI’s singles, albums and the  タイヨウのうた movie DVD ^^

Interview: Cosafe on Channel U

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Seems like many who have watched Channel U during the evening (8.30pm) the day before would have seen the Interview on Cosafe.

The video basically covers the operation of the cosafe, interview with the Owner (The idea of a cosplay cafe etc), interview with the staff, a bit of showcasing of their talents and stuff.

However, that’s not the main highlight of the show! It was actually the appearance of local anibloggers on it!

DarkMirage from DarkMirage.com had a screen time of a few miniseconds, TJ_han from RIUVA.com has his left sleeve caught on national TV. Luckily for LianYL (or not), he was interviewed as well. Mitsuki Hayase, who was said something that the directors gave it a thumbs up :)

Unfortunately, this video is in Mandarin Chinese (Singaporean Chinese?!) but English speakers, don’t worry, for there have been speculations of this video being subbed. I might want to sub it as well.
