A week in Singapore

^ Unfortunately we don’t have cute witches flying around on brooms :/

Was thinking of bringing more about the local scene to your readers. In attempt to do that, I’ll be starting a series called “A week in Singapore”, inspired by Danny Choo’s “A week in Tokyo”.

I’m not too sure if I’ll be able to this every week but let’s just try it out ^^

My room in a mess after shifting everything back in after the floor got polished. It’s all cleaned up now.

IMG_3698

Hanging out with a couple of guys at Manga Oasis Cafe in Suntec City. That’s Spaceballs on the laptop.

IMG_3700

Trying to make it a routine to do a bit of drawing practice every week. This one’s a lineart drawn from the girl in PINK CHU CHU’s latest artbook.

IMG_3734

Though my friend, Xephonia has better lineart. Wonder when I’ll reach that level ^^;

IMG_3703

Dinner for that day was Nasi Lemak, which is steamed rice that has been soaked in coconut cream. Comes with dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, egg, chicken, cucumber slices and spicy hot sauce (Chilli).

You can choose any accompaniments to come along or select from the set. Chose the set that came with the fish (The store called it Fried Tempura fish) but it was just ordinary fried breaded fish. Tasted pretty alright.

IMG_3721

Browsing my friend’s issue of Megami Creators (February). Illustrator’s 「ゆきうさぎ」 (Yukiusagi). Awesomely cutesy girl. Me wants ^^;

IMG_3727

Night shot of the city skyline. The colored version turned out blurry as I didn’t had a tripod. That’s the Esplanade on the right, more locally known as “The Durain”.

IMG_3735

Waraku, a Japanese Restuarant. Tried once. The prices are pretty decent.

IMG_3740

Some more buildings.

IMG_3744

Another shot of the Esplanade.

IMG_3752

Waiting for the train. Security doors in all underground stations.

IMG_3761

Something went wrong with the picture ^^;

IMG_3774

Crowded train.. though not as crowded as during Japan’s rush hour.

P1010017

Was at a bar with a bunch of friends for New Year’s eve. How was yours?

P1010020

Taking a cab home first thing in the morning after New Year’s Celebrations.

Cab fares here have pretty much increased. Midnight surcharge (12 midnight till 6am in the morning) costs 50% of your fare. So if your fare’s original price + 50% of it.

P1010030

Vending machine selling Japanese drinks. Costs more than the local drinks as they are usually imported.

P1010032

Enjoying some McFlurry at MacDonalds and do some reading. Prefer reading at home though ^^;

P1020048

Buying some Yong Tau Foo for dinner.

melody. – Be as one

皆さん、こんにちわ!
今週とらいしゅうはいろいろ仕事から、最近ブログはアップデートしませんでした。
本とにごめなさいでした! ^^

Hello there everyone!
Due to lots of work/assignments that has to be completed, I haven’t had much time to update this blog.
Really sorry about that!

—————————————

I have been listening to melody.’s for a few days now, with it looping in my player’s playlist and also in the MD.

Who is this melody. then? A short quote from wikipedia reveals more

melody. is a Japanese American born in Hawaii. Her full name is Melody Miyuki Ishikawa. She has three younger sisters, one of whom, Christine, is also involved with the music industry in Japan. She became most popular in Japan when her song “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz was used in a commercial for Mitsubishi. Melody is currently a vegan. She is not to be confused with “MELODY”, who sang the theme song for the CBC drama “Kids War” in Japan.

Mostly recently, melody.’s latest single “Lovin’ U” debuted on the Oricon Weekly Charts at #16. The single includes the B-side “Our Journey.” Which, was the theme song for the 2006 movie Gen Yu Den starring Rena Tanaka, who also co-wrote the lyrics to the song.

Participation in Need for Speed Carbon game.

Does it ring a bell? I have heard one of her songs (‘realize’) once, back when it was in the 2005 Weekly Best 30 Oricon chart.

This album ‘Be as one’ has a very balanced mix of tunes. Sad, happy, and yet an upbeat and catchy album I would say. It is probably not too pop-ish as well.

Tracklisting

1. Be as one
2. see you. . .
3. De ja Vu
4. realize
5. Close Your Eyes – English Version
6. Promises
7. Dear Love
8. Take a chance
9. Nest to You
10. Stay with Me
11. Gift of Love
12. miss you (nagareboshi REMIX)

I particularly like ‘realize’ , ‘Close your eyes’ , ‘Take a chance’ and ‘Next to you’. I could probably describe them as very powerful songs, one to motivate you :) ‘Take a chance’ would be at top if I had to choose from these 4 selected.

You can find this album on the internets, though I urge you to support this artist by buying this album. You might also have realized that Yumi, one of your crew member for NFS:Carbon is actually casted by melody. as well.

P.S. I think I’ll take about 100 out of my paycheck to grab all YUI’s singles, albums and the  タイヨウのうた movie DVD ^^

    I see a Little Busters! poster…me wants!

    Also, nice pictures. Wish I had an exciting life so I could copy that idea. LOL

  2. - Adun

    Lol, I’m surprised you bought a WordPress for Dummies. At your level, you should be able to see how WP works. It’s the PHP you need to know if you want to create functionality.

    mmmm. good

    maybe more daily life scenes would be nice…
    keep on practicing!

  3. - Soshi

    Gaaah! Seeing you practice makes me feel guilty for not doing so. But keep it up! It’s looking really good!!

  4. - AS

    Lol, I thought you had great coding skills, you don’t need that book ^^. The nasi lemak looks good, maybe I’ll order it if I see it. Space Balls is a hilarious parody, may the swartz be with you ^^. Keep up the weekly posts if you can.

  7. - Hijiko

    Very nice, daily life posts brings variety to the blog =).

  8. - D_Blade

    Good going! I hope to see more of it!

    I only visited Singapore (as well as Hong-Kong and Malaysia in the same time) when I was around 10.
    The metro was so ahead of its time back then.

    The other vivid memory is a hotel in Singapore named Genting. It is huge and I always felt it could reach the clouds… And I wondered if there was a casino inside. Does that ring a bell to you (no jokes on nicks here, as I don’t feel sharp tonight)?

    Keep it up then!

  9. - D_Blade

    Gah, Genting is in Malaysia?
    Please don’t kill me, Master!

  10. - shiro

    Interesting pictures. The nasi lemak looks tasty. I am kinda hungry right now…

    Awesome! Must visit Singapore this year.

  11. - Kaori

    homg. your view of a crowded train is so different from mine.. D: are you standing on the seats to take the picture? :/

    @Deathy: Life is always exciting, just got to look at the big picture at times ^^;

    @Adun: Even after using WordPress for almost 3 years, there are still some functions that I have never used and need to do somereading up on ^^; Do have PHP books around.

    @Tragic comedy: Thanks!

    @Soshi: Haha. Draw more too!

    @AS: LOL. My coding skills are probably the worst trait of mine.. but it’s slowly improving recently. Thanks!

    @D_Blade: Genting is in Malaysia! Won’t kill you.

    @Danny Choo: Sure! Will bring you around if you do.

    @Kaori: Taken with my arms slightly raised ^^;

    That’s a pretty nice lineart, honestly. I wish I could draw at least that good!

    That artbook of Pink Chu Chu and Megami Creators makes me want to start hunting for anime-related magazines and artbooks. @_@

    Wha !!! Love the last picture ! I need singapore food now !!

    @blauereiter: If you don’t mind the food to be EMS-ed over ^^;
