I was just checking Japanator a few hours back when I came across an rather interesting article.

Don’t know how many of you readers watch Macross Frontier but I certainly do enjoy that series a whole lot. With moe moe Ranka and sultry sexy Sheryl Nome (SSS lol), and of course with all the included action and mecha fighting and insert songs, who doesn’t? ^^;

But I’m not going to talk about Macross Frontier, but instead, the powerful weapon that can make even the most hardened veteran fighters drop their weapons and form moe hearts in their eyes.

This rather new phenomenon has started to appear over the internets.

Can you guess it? The clue’s in the picture ^^

Yes! It’s Ranka Lee and her kawaii devil horns (a.k.a \m/). Fanarts of Ranka Lee and several anime characters has started to pop out in imageboards with them doing the \m/ gesture.

This rather new phenomenon started in a recent episode of Macross Frontier when Ranka Lee did her spectacular dance move during a middle of a battle, and in which, made the attacking forces drop their weapons and blush in shades of tomatoes as they watch the moe girl do her thing.

Funnily enough (or not), the \m/ sign is also known as a vulgar hand gesture in Mediterranean countries.

A very much overdue set of photos from Cosfest 2008. Too much replaying of Diablo II again has somewhat distracted me from posting this up.

This time we have a real life Ayu Tsukimiya from Key’s (adult) visual novel Kanon, who has decided to make an appearance at Cosfest. She came crashing into me in the shopping district, and then suddenly took my hand and started running.

Eventually, I learned that she’d stolen some taiyaki and was on the run. I was wondering what any of this had to do with me but I had no choice but to duck into a cafe to hide from the taiyaki baker.

I was actually very much shocked when I realize how much resemblance the real life Ayu has to the game’s Ayu.

Very cute Ayu cosplayer there that is probably very much in character. She made the taiyaki herself too, though it turned out a little burned as it was her first.

A few weeks back, I was interviewed by the local weekly newspaper, Friday Weekly, together with bloggers Double and Soshi.

That’s me and the pretty street busker on the street of Akihabara 

The interview was basically to gain more insights on the whole otaku culture in Singapore in parallel with how it is like in Japan and also to clear the misunderstanding of how Otakus = Hikikomoris.

We had also discussed on the recent stabbings (massacre) in Akihabara, and on how the otaku culture has influenced us on a whole.

That’s facially how the interview went if I recall correctly ^^;

The article also covered bits and pieces of Tsutomu Miyazaki, who’s also known as The Otaku Murderer for killing 4 victims back in 1988 - 1989. And also on Densha Otoko, the purportedly true story of a otaku dating a woman who he saved that was being harassed by a drunken man while on a train. I wonder if they should have also added in Neveda Girl into the article as well, though it’s not entirely related.

Bangin-san and Miho-san were also featured in the article too as the only picture I took with double was that particular one. We should take pictures more often ^^;

I haven’t really got spotted while traveling on the trains or walking around but people have been giving me looks lol.

Was looking through some of the photos taken during my April trip to Japan (2008). Saw this picture and shared with you guys as I think it’s so cute. People sleeping on trains in Japan is just so common! Even I felt asleep ^^;

She’s probably the cutest Suzumiya Haruhi cosplayer that I have had ever taken photos of. I wonder if my bad nosebleed after Cosfest 2008 was due to too much moe from the cosplayers ^^;

ANyway, the reason for posting the photos by anime category instead of covering it as an event (like what I used to do) is because I didn’t take a lot of the cosplayers photos and decided to do coverage on smaller groups of cosplaying teams as I have more time to experiment with slightly more different angles and themes

Also, it is to avoid having too many photographers hogging the cosplayers ^^;

I have such strange affinity with Haruhi indeed ^^;

Mycstea of Collateral Damage Studios showed me this picture a few hours back which I can’t help but share it with you all ^^;

That aside, how many of you readers collect figures from the figma series?

I am wanting to order a Tohsaka Rin figma but all the expressions they have of her is Rin in a fighting pose with her mouth open and a concentrated look on her face. At least it’s much better compared to the Revoltech version which has Rin looking very lifeless.

Maybe I should switch to Nendoriod instead as I find them really really cute. Really cute looking Chua Churam from Chu x Chu in Nenodriod form that is coming out during Comiket 74.

Can’t we have a nice figure of Rin? ORZ

STCC has been a terrific and yet real tiring event. For the past 2 - 3 days, I have been doing event photo coverage on the behalf of Collateral Damage Studios, a local doujin group. There will be a couple of photos with the members form the doujin group in it.

Not forgetting Haruhi-sama as well!

The crowd on the 1st day of the event was real crazy. There was a lot more people than excepted, and I often had to push my way through the crowd ^^; Had also made a couple of new friends and bought some comics and goods as well.

Have taken more than a thousand photos during the course of the event and filtering thru them has really been hard. I am bad at writing event posts so I’ll just spam the photos for you readers to enjoy ^^

Walk of Fame

The Walk of Fame consists of a whole stretch of VIPs from some of the leading names in the design, comics, toys and related-industries. Some of the names include Pete Fowler, Simone Legno (tokidoki), Gary Erskine, Devilrobots and Joseph Wong Chak (Old Master Q)

Devilrobots

The Devilrobots are a design team of 5 from Japan known for their sinister character and designs. TO-FU Oyako, another symbolic television character, has been designed by them as well.

Gary Erskine’s booth

Scottish comic book artist Gary Erskine, who has been in the drawing scene for a close to 20 years. He did the cover for all three issues of X-Wing : Rogue Leader, a Star Wars mini-series published by Dark Horse and is also notable for drawing Knights of Pendragon.

Tokidoki (Simone Legno)

Tokidoki, a Japanese inspired lifestyle brand by Simone Legno, an italian artist. Tokidoki, also means ‘Sometimes’ in Japanese. Simone has chosen the Japanse word ‘tokidoki’ as he feels that everyone waits for moments that change one’s destiny.

I really like the character designs as they are indeed very cute ^^;

Old Master Q

Old Master Q” or better known as “Lao Fu Zi (老夫子)” in Chinese is a popular Chinese comic or manhua created by Alfonso Wong.

Old Master Q comics focuses on not just humor, but also changing social trends, particulary from the 1960s to the 1980s and would also feature societal problems which included poverty, thefts and secret societies. Fashion, contemporary art and rock music has also been poked fun off and also the language barrier between the Chinese and English language.

I remember enjoying the every page of Old Master Q’s comics that I had. It was just hands down hilarious! You can also read the translated copies of Old Master Q over in the archive of their official website.
